4A Games promises to set a new benchmark in graphics with its post-apocalyptic Russian underground shooter, Metro: Last Light. Today, you get a good look at what that benchmark looks like with Part 1 of the Last Light gameplay demo from E3.

Protagonist Artyom is back, and in the trailer below, he's infiltrating a heavily guarded Reich station in search of an ally being held prisoner. Note the use of the light meter on Artyom's weapon, and how he uses (and creates) the darkness for stealth:

Metro: Last Light is in development for Windows PCs, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The game's release date remains TBA but is expected sometime in 2012.
